West Bengal BJP president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar asserted that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government “will not last long,” claiming that voters will remove her administration through the ballot in the 2026 Assembly elections.
Speaking to OTV, during Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata, Majumdar drew a sharp comparison between the government’s political fate and the recently showcased “Operation Sindoor,” depicted in a prominent puja pandal.
“Just as ‘Operation Sindoor’ was carried out to eliminate terrorists, Mamata Banerjee’s government will be removed through ballots in the 2026 elections,” he said.
Political Statement Amid Festive Backdrop
Majumdar’s remarks came against the backdrop of Kolkata Durga Puja festivities, where puja committees are known for creating elaborate thematic pandals.
This year, the Santosh Mitra Street puja has attracted significant attention by converting its pandal into a giant LED installation that replays visuals of the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent military operation led under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
The pandal’s theme highlights women’s resilience and the symbolism of sindoor, showcasing how women across states and the divine Mother Goddess herself protect tradition, sacrifice, and strength.
Majumdar linked this visual narrative with his political attack on the Trinamool Congress government, suggesting that Bengal’s electorate would soon “take their own decisive step.”

Operation Sindoor in Public Imagination
The Santosh Mitra Street pandal depicts not only the operation but also figures like Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, presented on LED screens. The installation blends military bravery with cultural imagery, showing how sindoor, traditionally a mark of marital sanctity, was avenged and safeguarded by the courage of soldiers.
Reports added that estival-goers have crowded the pandal to watch the visual retelling, which combines national security themes with religious devotion.
