Bhubaneswar: Good news for candidates who are looking for a career in the Indian Railways, as the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has released a recruitment notification to fill various Group-C and erstwhile Group-D posts against the Scouts and Guides Quota for the year 2017-18. Interested and eligible candidates must apply through the prescribed format and submit the application form on or before December 18, 2017.
However, the last date to submit application forms for aspirants of Andaman, Nicobar and Lakshadweep is January 2, 2018.
Candidates can apply either for a single post or may apply for both Group-C and Erstwhile Gr.D posts but there will be separate examinations conducted for the posts.

ELIGIBILITY:
For Group-C posts, a candidate should have passed 12th or its equivalent examination with not less than 50% aggregate marks. However, SC/ST/Ex-servicemen candidates are not required to possess 50% marks. (OR) The applicant should have passed the matriculation examination or its equivalent from a recognised Board and having ITI certificate for the posts in Technical Categories.
For erstwhile Group D posts, an applicant should have passed 10th standard from a recognized Board (OR) should have passed 10th Class with National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT (OR) should be a 10th pass from recognized Board with ITI Certificate.
Scouting/Guiding Qualifications:
(1) A PresidentScout/ Guide/ Rover/Ranger OR Himalayan Wood Badge Holder in any section
(2) Should have been an active member of a Scouts organization for the last five years. The 'Certificate of Activeness' should be as per Annexure-'III'
(3) Should have attended two events at National Level OR All Indian Railways' level AND Two events at State Level.

Age Limit:
For Group-C posts- Applicants’ age should be between 18 and 28 years as on January 1, 2018. However, there is three and five years age relaxation for OBC and SC/ST candidates respectively.
Similarly for Erstwhile Gr.D posts, candidates’ age should be between 18 and 31 years. For OBC candidates, it is relaxable by three years where as SC/St candidates are given a relaxation of five years.
Selection Procedure:
The selection will purely be based on the written examination and further on Scouting Skill Assessment and marks on Certificates.
The written test will consist of 40 objective questions (40 marks) & one essay type question (10 marks) relating to Scouts and Guides Organization and its activities and General knowledge for Group-C and erstwhile Gr.D posts. The syllabus for this is mentioned in the notification. One-third marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. This apart, the Scouting Skill Assessment and Marks on Certificate will carry 10 and 40 marks respectively.

Application Fees:
General and OBC candidates should pay an application fee of Rs 500, while SC/ST, Ex-servicemen, PWDs, Women, Minorities and EBC candidates need to pay Rs 250, which will be refundable only in case the student appears for the examination.
Candidates should submit the application fee in the form of Demand Draft or Pay Order from any Nationalised Bank, or crossed Indian Postal Order from any Post Office (issued on or after the date of notification) drawn in favour of "Principal Financial Advisor, East Coast Railway, payable at Bhubaneswar".

How to Apply:
Candidates are advised to send separate application for Group C and erstwhile Group D posts. Application for Group C and erstwhile Group D posts in a single Application will be rejected for both categories. The envelope containing the application with all enclosures should clearly be superscribed ‘Application against Scout & Guide Quota Recruitment for the year 2017-18 for Group C and Erstwhile Gr.D’.
