The main accused in the murder of Police Mitra Sahadev Nayak surrendered at Mancheswar police station in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. Reports stated that the main accused, identified as Rama Nayak, was part of an intricate murder plot hatched by two others- Lipika Nayak and her spouse, Laxmidhar.
The murder, which occurred in broad daylight on January 8 at the Rasulgarh to Vani Vihar highway, sent shockwaves through Bhubaneswar. During an investigation, police had lined up three accused in the case of whom, Rama Nayak was on the run ever since the attack on Sahadev Nayak.
The case followed a woman named Lipika Nayak who planned the murder of Sahadev after holding his stance against the illicit drug trade as the reason for her imprisonment.
After getting out of jail, Lipkia disguised herself as a man and brutally hacked Sahadev with a machete near the Rasulgarh-Vani Vihar flyover, accompanied by a young accomplice on a motorcycle. Following the crime, the duo fled and disposed of the weapon in the Daya River.

The heinous killing also brought scrutiny for the Commissionerate Police after Sahadev Nayak's family stated receiving explicit threats prior to his murder, including calls for severing his head.
Despite approaching local police about the threats, Sahadev had been assured of his safety but was still hacked to death, lying headless on a busy stretch of Bhubaneswar on the day that several dignitaries headed to the state capital for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
