On November 15, Hyderabad witnessed a spectacle as SS Rajamouli unveiled his ambitious new project, Varanasi, during the grand GlobeTrotter event. Stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran joined the filmmaker on stage, but it was Mahesh Babu’s jaw-dropping entry- arriving on a mechanical bull rather than strolling in- that stole the show. Rajamouli has now shared the incredible effort behind pulling off that moment.

Designing the Iconic Mahesh Babu Entry

Team Varanasi dropped a behind-the-scenes video captioned "The BOB entry, the backstory…”, revealing the meticulous planning that went into the stunt. The footage opens with technicians assembling speed rails and ramps inside a soundstage using a complex rig system. The art department then takes over, hand-crafting the mechanical bull from scratch and ensuring it moves just like Rajamouli envisioned.

Massive Manpower, Larger-Than-Life Execution

At Ramoji Film City, a small army of workers can be seen erecting towering structures to support giant HD screens. More rigs- both onsite and at the studio- assist where human strength isn’t enough. One striking shot in the video shows the ground being excavated to embed rails and ramps directly into the venue floor. Once the mechanics are perfected, Rajamouli oversees the test runs.

Mahesh Babu Test-Drives His Entrance, Namrata Prays

Mahesh himself joins the trials, climbing onto the bull to ensure the motion feels right before the live reveal. His wife, Namrata Shirodkar, watches the final moment unfold with a quiet prayer, hoping everything goes smoothly. As Mahesh rides the bull onto the stage, their daughter Sitara erupts in excitement, completing the emotional family moment.

What Varanasi Promises?

Varanasi marks Rajamouli’s first film since his 2022 blockbuster RRR. Blending time travel with a globetrotting narrative, the film casts Mahesh as Rudhra, Priyanka as Mandakini, and Prithviraj as the villainous Kumbha. The film’s first teaser even echoes Mahesh’s event entrance, showcasing him atop a bull. This much-anticipated project is slated for a grand Sankranthi 2027 release.
