Tamil superstar Vijay’s wife Sangeeta files for divorce after 25 years of marriage

In a significant development involving one of Tamil cinema’s most prominent stars, actor-politician Vijay’s wife, Sangeeta Sornalingam, has reportedly filed a petition seeking divorce after more than 25 years of marriage. 

The petition has been submitted before the Chengalpattu District Court, according to media reports. Vijay, who recently entered full-time politics as the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, married Sangeeta in August 1999.

Affair With Actress

The couple has two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha, and largely maintained a private family life despite Vijay’s massive public following.

As per reports, the divorce petition has been filed under the provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. In her plea, Sangeeta has allegedly cited adultery and cruelty as grounds for dissolution of marriage. The petition reportedly claims that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress and that the issue had caused prolonged strain in the relationship.

No Reconciliation

It is further reported that she became aware of the alleged relationship a few years ago and that attempts at reconciliation did not yield results. In addition to seeking divorce, Sangeeta is said to have requested legal reliefs including residential rights and permanent alimony.

However, the full contents of the petition have not been made public, as the matter is now sub judice. As of now, neither Vijay nor his representatives has issued an official statement addressing the reports.
