A Front-Row View of 90s Stardom
Having shared screen space with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar, Madhuri recently reflected on why these actors continue to dominate decades later, despite the industry’s ever-shifting landscape.
Speaking on Mid-Day’s Sit With Hitlist, the actor attributed their longevity to discipline, focus and an unwavering dedication to their craft.
“I think it’s consistency. They made consistently good films and invested a lot of themselves in their work. And I’m not talking just about money, I’m talking about themselves,” Madhuri said.
She further explained how many stars took ownership of their careers by turning producers and shaping their creative journeys.
“They worked diligently, never gave up, and never rested on their laurels. I think that’s what really helps longevity,” she added.
What Madhuri Learnt and Taught Alongside Shah Rukh Khan?
Among her many memorable co-stars, Shah Rukh Khan holds a special place for Madhuri - not just for his screen presence, but for his off-screen persona.
“Shah Rukh was more outgoing and charming,” she shared. “He makes sure he looks after women, not just his co-stars, but everyone working with him. He’s extremely witty and smart and can talk about anything under the sun. He has a lovely personality, and we got along so well.”
The respect between the two stars has always been mutual.
In an earlier interview, SRK had described Madhuri as the best co-star he had worked with, crediting her for teaching him the most.
Madhuri, however, brushed off the praise with humility.
She said, “I didn’t teach anyone anything. I think he meant his own observations of me. When you dance together or do scenes together, there’s a lot of give-and-take. We often get surprised by the way the other performs and does a particular thing.”
Salman Khan: Mischief Meets Commitment
Contrasting the King actor’s charm with Salman Khan’s personality, Madhuri highlighted how different the two superstars are in real life.
“Salman is a very different person. He’s naughty and mischievous. He may seem like he’s not very serious about his work, but the moment the camera rolls, he’s completely there,” she said.
