Yet, behind the glitz and glamour, the actress had to stay alert and guarded even at the height of her stardom.
Renuka Shahane Reveals ‘Hidden Threats’ in the Film Industry
During a candid conversation with Zoom, actress Renuka Shahane - fondly remembered for Hum Aapke Hain Kaun... - opened up about the darker side of Bollywood. She shared that Raveena “had to be extremely cautious to protect herself from predators during her peak years in the industry.”
Renuka went on to reveal shocking details of the lengths actresses had to go to for their safety.
“Raveena was a big heroine and she came from the industry, but she had told me that during outdoor shoots, we would change rooms every day so that nobody should know which room we are staying. So they don’t come and create problem,” she recalled.
Her revelation shed light on a troubling truth - that even A-list stars were not immune to harassment, and constant vigilance was often their only shield.
The Unseen Struggles of Stardom
Renuka further explained that many actresses in the 1990s faced late-night intrusions and unwanted advances from male actors and producers on film sets. Even with precautions, safety was never guaranteed.
Raveena herself has been vocal about the realities of working in Bollywood. She once admitted she had been “wooed & flirted with” and acknowledged the pervasive presence of professional harassment, even though she clarified she never experienced sexual harassment directly.
The actress also spoke against the casting couch culture, condemning the pressure that women often faced to “compromise” for roles.
