The debate around extravagant star entourages in Bollywood has been intensifying. Well-known filmmakers like Karan Johar, Farah Khan, Anees Bazmee and Anurag Kashyap have openly criticised the ballooning costs that trail behind A-list celebrities. They argue that these oversized entourages drain budgets, restrict creative freedom, and ultimately hurt the filmmaking ecosystem.

Piyush Mishra’s Take: ‘Less Hang-Up, More Work’

During a recent conversation with Curly Tales, actor-lyricist Piyush Mishra offered a candid perspective on the culture of excessive entourages. Having worked across industries, he confessed his fondness for the South film industry, where stars don’t operate under the pressure of constant airs and attitude.

Further, Mishra pointed out how many Bollywood actors walk onto sets with unnecessary fleets- 8-9 personal team members and up to 12 bodyguards- an indulgence he finds baffling.

He shared, “People live in hangups, they have a lot of tantrums. Their entourage is so long. Almost 8-9 people will come with them, they will walk with at least 12 bodyguards but why do you need these many bodyguards? You are a single person. Who is coming to kill you?"

"I don’t mind this and it is not that it is not applicable to me. I have one assistant and one make-up artist and I don’t need anybody else after these two. What is the need for so many people - one person is to drink with you. One is to give you a drink, one is to comb your hair, one is to do your makeup. So I don’t understand the meaning behind this,” he added.

Ranbir Kapoor: Stardom Without the Fuss

Having worked with Ranbir Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha, Piyush Mishra highlighted the actor as a shining example of humility. Despite being fully aware of his immense stardom, Ranbir avoids diva behaviour and keeps things refreshingly simple.

Calling him one of his personal favourites, Mishra said, “Ranbir ghazab hai. He doesn’t have any tantrums because he knows he’s such a big star. He has no hangups. He is my favourite actor.”
