Indian Idol 12 winner Pawandeep Rajan recounts near-fatal accident and hopes for full recovery

Nearly seven months after a devastating road accident near Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, Indian Idol 12 winner Pawandeep Rajan has stepped back into the public eye, offering a candid account of his harrowing experience. The incident, which took place in May 2025, left the singer with fractures in both legs, injuries to his right arm, and trauma to the head, demanding several surgeries.

His first appearance since the accident was on Salim-Sulaiman’s podcast, where he opened up about the frightening moments following the crash and how the ordeal reshaped his outlook on life and music. 

‘The Car Had Caught Fire’: Pawandeep Describes the Terrifying Moments

Narrating the sequence of events, Pawandeep recalled the chaos and helplessness that followed the collision.

He said, “Initially, no one was helping us, then the police came. The car had caught fire, and I was inside it at the time. One of them pulled me out. I don’t know how long I was inside, but when I woke up, I was out of the car. Then I was taken to the hospital. Both my legs and a hand were broken. I called up home and asked my family to come. I just thought about getting it treated as soon as possible. It has all gotten better now.”

The singer noted that the accident left him with no option but to prioritise immediate medical attention as he gradually processed what had happened. 

A Slow but Strong Recovery Journey

Pawandeep revealed that his recovery tested both his physical and emotional strength.

He said, “For the first month, I couldn’t even move from side to side, but now I’m able to walk a little, which makes me happy. The experience made me realise the true value of being able to walk. When such incidents occur, you must accept them, move forward, and remain positive. I’ve begun walking gradually, and I hope my mobility improves further in the coming month. After the accident, I was bedridden, and even when I flew to Mumbai with my injured leg, I had to stay immobile for another month. Slowly, I’ve started walking and even playing the guitar again. My hand has regained some strength, but it still needs more healing.”

Despite persistent challenges, the singer expressed gratitude for the progress he has made and is hopeful of regaining complete mobility over time.

The Accident That Changed Everything

The horrific crash took place on May 5, 2025, when Pawandeep was travelling to Delhi to board a flight to Ahmedabad for a live performance. At around 3 AM, his vehicle collided with a stationary truck near Moradabad. He was first rushed to a local government hospital and later shifted to a premier medical facility in the Delhi NCR region, where he underwent multiple surgeries to treat his critical injuries.
