BMC Cracks Down on Alleged Violations

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reportedly sought a permanent blacklisting of B62 Studios, alleging that the production house flouted rules while filming in South Mumbai.

Civic authorities claim that portions of Dhurandhar 2 were shot on a building terrace and that two generator vans were used without obtaining mandatory permissions.

In response, the BMC has written to the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) of Zone 1, A ward, urging strict action. The body has demanded a fine of Rs 1 lakh and confirmed that the Rs 25,000 security deposit submitted by the production house has been forfeited.

It has also pushed for a complete ban on B62 Studios from applying for future shooting permits.

According to reports cited by Times Now, the DMC has approved the proposal regarding blacklisting.

Access to Film Corporation Portal Revoked

In a further setback, B62 Studios and two other applicants have been barred from submitting permission requests via the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation Limited website.

A BMC representative told The Indian Express, "Having received the clearances, the three applicants - Komal Pokhriyal, Nasir Khan, and B62 production house – can no longer apply for shooting permissions with the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development CL website. On Tuesday, we will also be issuing notices to these three applicants to inform them of the actions taken, and a copy of the notice will also be shared with the Maharashtra film cell and the head of BMC’s Business Cell."

What Led to the Civic Action?

Reports indicate that the Dhurandhar 2 team had secured permission to film between Modi Street and Perin Nariman Street in Mumbai’s A ward on February 7 and 8, under strict police conditions that prohibited the use of firecrackers. An initial warning was reportedly issued for violations, followed by a second permission window for February 13 and 14.

Despite assurances that no flammable materials would be used and that fire effects would be created using VFX, authorities allegedly received complaints after midnight on February 14 about torches being ignited during the shoot. Officials reached the spot within 15 minutes and confiscated five torches.

Citing repeated non-compliance, the BMC formally wrote to the DMC seeking approval to impose fines, document the seized materials, and permanently blacklist the applicants from future permissions through the state film corporation portal.

Release Under a Shadow?

With the release date drawing near, the controversy has cast uncertainty over the film’s promotional momentum. Whether B62 Studios will challenge the decision legally remains unclear, but for now, Dhurandhar 2 finds itself navigating turbulence beyond the camera lens.
