The launch of Jaate Hue Lamhon, the third song from Border 2, turned into an evening soaked in nostalgia, emotion and cinematic legacy. Reimagined from the 1997 war epic Border, the track brings back one of Hindi cinema’s most poignant melodies, this time shaped for a new generation while holding firmly onto its soul.

A Classic Reborn for Today’s Audience
For Border 2, the makers have preserved the original lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar, ensuring the emotional core of the song remains untouched. While the words stay the same, the recreated version carries a contemporary sonic treatment. Sung by veteran Roop Kumar Rathod along with Vishal Mishra, the new rendition has already struck a chord with listeners.
The original track, composed by Anu Malik and voiced by Rathod, had become timeless through its simplicity and depth. Nearly three decades later, Jaate Hue Lamhon returns- not as a replacement, but as a respectful revival.
The Scene That Made History
The song traces its roots to Border, where Ae Jaate Hue Lamhon played during a heart-wrenching farewell. Suniel Shetty’s character, soldier Bhairav Singh, sings it as he parts from his newly married wife before heading to duty. The moment captured love, separation and sacrifice, becoming one of the film’s most unforgettable sequences and a defining portrayal of soldiers’ emotional battles.
'Blessed' Moment For Suniel Shetty
Reflecting on the moment, Suniel Shetty shared, “Roop ji had sung this song for me, and it became an iconic song in the film. Today, my son is a part of this very song, and in the second film, he also gets the opportunity to play a naval officer. Probably one of the first naval officers shown in Indian cinema on screen. I truly feel blessed."
He added, “This film wouldn't have been made without Sunny Deol. When I was told that my character dies, I was quite excited as he dies for the country. But for the first time, I have got the feeling that if my character was alive, I would have been a part of Border 2! Woh uniform pehnne ki talab hamesha se rahi hai mujhe.”

Clips from the launch event quickly took over social media. One standout moment shows Suniel Shetty walking onto the stage alongside Roop Kumar Rathod, as nostalgia fills the air with the singer’s live rendition. Vishal Mishra continues the song on stage, with Ahan Shetty present, making the moment deeply emotional and symbolic.
Another viral clip has Suniel Shetty recreating his powerful dialogue from Border, recalling the fight sequence with Sudesh Beri and the iconic tank-blowing scene, sending fans into a frenzy and proving once again why the film still lives vividly in collective memory.
