Dhenkanal: Past enmity within the family cost a young man his life. Allegedly beaten and hacked to death by family members here in the district on Saturday, a case was registered with the police following a complaint by the youth's mother.
The deceased, identified as Prashant Singh of Baghamunda Jhitikipasi village under Parajanga police limits of Dhenkanal district, was beaten up by four of his family members.
The four family members include his father's elder brother, uncle and his son and daughter. They attacked him with wooden planks.
Though he managed to survive, they again attacked him with sharp weapons thereby killing him on the spot.
“The murder seems to have been a fallout of previous enmity between the family members. All four accused from the family have been detained for interrogation. Further investigation is on,” said ASI Ramesh Chandra Swain.
