Puri: A youth was brutally hacked to death by unidentified miscreants allegedly over past rivalry at Dhipajagar Jagannath colony under Puri Town police limits late Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Maheswar Martha.
Sources said, nearly five armed miscreants attacked Maheswar with sharp weapons after calling him out of his house.
Maheswar, who sustained multiple injuries on his head, chest and other parts, was immediately rushed to Puri district headquarters hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
"The deceased succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. We have started a probe into the incident with the help of forensic experts," said DSP, Prashant Pattnayak.
Senior police officials said two suspects in connection with the murder case have been detained and are now being interrogated.
Both the suspects were detained while they were moving in a suspicious manner near the crime spot, sources said.
