Woman set afire by in-laws over family dispute

Keonjhar: A woman was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws over family dispute in Karadangi Ghodabeda Sahi under Telkoi police limits in Keonjhar district on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Sabita, wife of one Tuna Mohanta.

Father of deceased Sabita, Lambodar Mohanta alleged that his son-in-law was having love affairs with another girl. "Because of this, in-laws of my daughter used to torture her and they killed her by setting on fire yesterday," stated Mohanta.

Meanwhile, husband of the deceased said that Sabita committed suicide by setting herself on fire after pouring kerosene. Tuna further stated that he tried to save her but his efforts went in vain.

On the other hand, father of Sabita has filed a complaint at the Telkoi police station for allegedly killing his daughter. Based on the complaint, police have detained the in-laws of Sabita and further investigation into the incident is on.

“A case has been registered at the police station regarding killing of a woman and we have initiated an investigation into the incident,” said Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Telkoi police station, Debendra Pigua.
