Nuapada: Bijeswar Panda, the ASI of Khariar Police Station was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths today while accepting bribe from one Bhabani Shankar Adha of Kuanrpada area to dispose off a criminal case.
Sources said Panda was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe Rs 4000 from Adha. The ASI had demanded Adha to pay Rs 5000 for disposing off a case against the latter.
“The cop asked me to pay Rs 5000 to withdraw a criminal case against me, but I said him that I will not be able to pay,” Adha, the complainant said.
Vigilance DSP Satyaban Mahananda said “The ASI was investigating a case against Adha and had demanded bribe from the accused. But we have arrested the cop and investigation is underway.”
Raids were also conducted on the official residence of the ASI inside Khariar PS premises.
