Nayagarh: Police on Saturday detained an Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on allegations of raping and impregnating his niece, a minor girl, in Fatehgarh area in Nayagarh district. The accused Brajabandhu Mallik was posted at Dasapalla police station here.
As per reports, the minor girl had been staying alone with her mentally challenged father. Taking advantage of this, Mallik allegedly raped the minor girl who is now five-months pregnant.
The family members of the girl approached the State Women Commission following which Fatehgarh police detained the accused ASI.
"We have received a complaint from the CWC Nayagarh and a case was subsequently registered in this connection. Our investigation is on," said IIC of Fatehpur police station, Asutosh Mishra.
However, wife of Mallik alleged that her husband is being intentionally implicated in the case and termed it as a conspiracy.
"It's a conspiracy of my brother-in-law against my husband. She (the minor girl) is like my daughter. My husband can never do such a heinous crime," said Mallik's wife.
