Nurse Niharika Was Murdered By Her Boyfriend: Police

Jagatsingpur: Nurse Niharika Patra's murder was pre-planned and executed by her boyfriend Kishore Anchal alias Raja, police said on Saturday.

Addressing a presser, Jagatsinghpur SP today revealed that Niharika was murdered in Cuttack while her body was stuffed in a plastic gunny bag and dumped on Biluakhai riverbed in Jagatsinghpur district by Raja who was arrested yesterday.

Earlier on September 17, an unidentified body stuffed in a gunny bag was recovered and later the family members identified the body to be that of Niharika.

According to SP R Prakash, Niharika was untraceable since September 8 and a missing complaint was filed by her family at Madhupatna Police station in Cuttack on September 9.

Though both Niharika and Raja were into a relationship for the past few years, there was a dispute between them as Niharika was earning while Raja was still unemployed. Sources said it is due to this reason that Niharika was reluctant for marriage which might have turned her relationship with Raja sour.

the day of the incident (September 8), Raja picked Niharika from the hospital where she was working as a nurse. Later, he took Niharika to his friend’s house located at Chauliaganj and killed her,” said Prakash.

As per the post mortem report, it is suspected that Niharika was strangulated to death.

“Apart from forensic evidences and call detail records, we have CCTV footage which matches with the clothes worn by the accused. The accused has confessed to the murder,” Prakash added.

Nurse Niharika's childhood friend said exemplary action should be taken against the accused so that others will think twice before committing such horrendous acts.

cannot say how I am feeling right now because it has been very hard not only for me but for my entire family. I want that the murderer should be hanged so that my daughter and family will get justice," said a crestfallen Niharika's father.

in the day, the accused boyfriend of Niharika, Raja was sent to Alipingal sub-jail after being produced before Jagatsinghpur SDJM.
