Nine arrested in Gunupur triple murder case

Rayagada: The Gunupur Police has arrested nine persons including main accused in the triple murder case in Ukambaguda village in Gunupur area of the district.

Based on a complaint filed by the daughter of the deceased, Sabita Sabar, a case was registered, following which the arrests were made on Thursday.

On February 23, some villagers had called three members of a family named Gopal Sabar, Lakhmi Sabar and Jankini Sabar to meet outside the village. The trio was allegedly beaten to death by the villagers over suspicion of practicing sorcery.

Later the accused had burnt the bodies in a bid to destroy the evidence.

During the course of investigation, police found evidences such as the burnt body parts and a bat that was used in the crime.
