Minor girl attempts suicide after family forces her to marry

Cuttack: A minor girl was rescued in critical condition after she attempted suicide at her residence in Nischintakoili block of Cuttack district on Sunday.  The girl reportedly took the extreme step after being thrashed by her family for refusing to marry.

The girl was rescued by locals who admitted her to the Nischintakoili hospital first and later shifted her to the SCB Medical College and Hospital after her condition deteriorated.

The girl alleged that her family members were forcing her to get married and beat her up mercilessly after she protested.

Family members of the girl  are yet to respond to the allegations.  No police complaint has been lodged yet.
