Sonepur: A 40-year-old man, identified as Jayant Das, was shot dead while he was sleeping in his house at Binika in Subarnapur district last night.
As per sources, Das was sleeping keeping the door of his house open due to power cut, when an unidentified miscreant barged inside, opened fire at him and fled the spot.
Das was immediately rushed to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla where doctors declared him brought dead.
Getting information, the Binika police along with a scientific team reached the spot and seized an empty shell. "Investigation into the incident is on. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained," said a police official.
