Nayagarh: Acting on the allegations of illegal sex determination and pregnancy termination, the Nayagarh district administration sealed a private nursing home after conducting a raid on Saturday night. Two employees of the nursing home have been detained in this connection. The raid was conducted in the presence of the Nayagarh Tehsildar and senior officials of Town Police station.
As per reports, owner of the nursing home Sridhar Pradhan and his assistant have been detained while the cops also rescued a woman and her husband who had allegedly gone to the clinic for the abortion after sex determination. As the woman is already blessed with twin daughters, she wanted terminate her pregnancy, sources said.
While the woman has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment, police sealed the nursing home and started an investigation into the matter. Police are also trying to ascertain whether any doctor was involved in the case.
"We raided the clinic after getting a specific input that illegal sex determination and abortions were being done. We seized some medicines from the spot," informed Nayagarh Tehsildar, Manoranjan Sahu.
"Police have detained two persons from the spot. Cops will interrogate them to unearth more information in the case and action will be taken against them as per the law," he added.
Meanwhile, police have arrested Sridhar Pradhan.
