Four Arrested Over Charges Of Child Theft In Ganjam

Berhampur: As many as four persons were arrested in connection with the theft of a child and selling him for Rs 30,000 in Gosaninuagan area in Ganjam district on September 20.

As per reports, the one-year-old baby of a nomadic family was sleeping with his parents under Lanjipali overbridge on Friday, when some miscreants took the child away.

Subsequently, when the baby's family members could not find him nearby after hours of frantic search, they lodged an FIR at the police station.

Based on the complaint, police had initiated an investigation and arrested four persons including two youths who stole the baby, a middlemen and another person who bought the child.

Police also rescued the baby and handed him over to his family. He was later admitted to hospital for treatment. A further investigation is currently underway.
