Dhenkanal: An elderly man allegedly committed suicide today after hacking his wife to death over a family quarrel at Khalapala village under Balimi police limits of the district. The deceased have been identified as Sudhakar Badia and his wife Sili.
As per sources, a quarrel ensued between Sudhakar and Sili at around 11 am in the morning. Suddenly in a fit of rage, Sudhakar attacked Sili with a sharp weapon following which she died on the spot. Later Sudhakar committed suicide by hanging himself, added sources.
On receiving information, Balimi police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident. The axe used in the murder has also been seized.
"As per the statements of a few locals, Sudhakar hacked his wife Sili with an axe following an altercation and later ended his life by hanging himself. Both the bodies have been sent for post mortem. Further investigation in on to find the exact cause of the deaths," said a police official.
