Kendrapara: Notorious criminal Ganesh Mallick was left critically injured in an encounter with police near Halpur chhak in Kendrapara late last night. Mallick, who sustained bullet injuries on his right leg, was initially admitted to Kendrapara District headquarters hospital and later rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Sadar police and Special Squad raided his house at Namakara. Seeing police at the spot, Mallick opened fire at them and tried to give the cops a slip. However, when the officials fired back in retaliation, Mallick sustained injury on his right leg.
Later, police nabbed him and also seized a pistol from his possession.
Ganesh had been absconding for nearly five years while several cases are pending against him for his involvement in murder and loot incidents, police said.
