Sundergarh: The district police on Sunday detained four Plus-III students of a degree college for allegedly raping one of their classmates last month. Police have also seized a bike (bearing registration number OD 16 F 1241) used by the accused in the crime.
As per the allegation, the girl student was waiting for a bus to go to her college on June 26, when two of her classmates arrived on a bike and took her along with them on pretext of dropping her in the college.
However, on the way to college, one of the youths forcibly took the girl to Putudihi jungle under Kinjirkela Police limits and outraged her modesty despite her strong resistance.
Three other classmates of the accused also reached the spot and allegedly took turns to rape her.
Following the incident, as the girl stopped going to the college, the family members of the girl suspected something strange. The matter came to light only when the victim narrated her ordeal to her parents.
Based on a complaint lodged by the family members of the girl, police have detained four students in this connection.
“A case has been registered at the Sadar Police station in this regard. We are verifying different angles of the crime. We will record the victim’s statement and send her for medical examination. Action will be taken as per the law against those who are found guilty,” said Ramakant Sai, IIC, Sundargarh Sadar PS.
