The Odisha government on Sunday announced the formation of seven new municipalities and 16 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) across the state.
The newly declared municipalities are- Karanjia, Boudh, Bhanjanagar, Aska, Chhatrapur, Kabisuryanagar and Polasara.
The newly declared NACs are- Loisingha in Bolangir district, Sohela in Bargarh district, Narsinghpur, Salepur and Badamba in Cuttack district, Jagannathprasad and Patrapur in Ganjam district, Gandia in Dhenkanal district, Chandikhol in Jajpur district, Narla and Jayapatna in Kalahandi district, Tangi in Khordha district, Borigumma in Koraput district, Kaptipada, Rasgobindpur and Jashipur in Mayurbhanj district.
With this decision, urban governance in the state will expand significantly, covering more towns under structured civic administration.

“Loisingha in Bolangir district, Sohela in Bargarh district, Narsinghpur, Salipur and Badamba in Cuttack district, Jagannathprasad and Patrapur in Ganjam district, Gandia in Dhenkanal district, Chandikhol in Jajpur district, Narla and Jayapatna in Kalahandi district, Tangi in Khordha district, Borigumma in Koraput district, Kaptipada, Rasgovindpur and Jashipur in Mayurbhanj district will be the new NACs. The seven new municipalities’ -Karanjiia in Mayurbhanj district, Boudh in Boudh district and Bhanjanagar, Aska, Chhatrapur, Kabisuryanagar and Polsara in Ganjam district. Earlier these places were NACs and now those have been declared as municipalities. These towns will be expanded significantly and it has been planned. Now the total number of increased NACs has reached 28,” said Chief Minister Mohan Majhi.
