Angul: Police on Sunday recovered the body of a minor girl near Dakhina Kali temple in Kangula village in the district. The deceased has been identified as Shrusti Maharana (12), daughter of Saroj Maharana of the village.
As per a complaint lodged by her father at the Angul police station, the minor girl was on her way to meet him when one Anam Dehury of the same village, allegedly kidnapped the girl and killed her.
Based on the complaint, Angul SP, SDPO and Inspector In-Charge of Angul police reached the spot along with a forensic team, recovered the body and initiated a probe into the incident.
“Blood stains have been found at different places and a probe is underway with the help of a scientific team. It is being suspected that this is a case of murder but the exact cause of death can only be established after a detailed investigation,” Angul SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said.
The SP further informed that the body has been sent for post mortem. "However, we cannot say whether the girl was raped before being murdered until we receive the autopsy reports. A probe into the matter is underway," he added.
