Director General (DG) of Police Sunil Bansal on Wednesday met the Deputy Superintendent-rank officer who sustained two bullet injuries in an encounter with Maoists in Kalahandi district yesterday. Three Maoists were killed in the exchange of fire.

The injured DSP underwent surgery at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and a bullet that had lodged in the heel region was successfully removed by the doctors.

“The injured officer has sustained two bullet injuries while one had got lodged in the heel area. The bullet has been removed and the condition of the patient is stable. It will take nearly two months for the injury to heal completely,” said Dr Saroj Patra.

While speaking to the media, DGP Sunil Bansal said that the condition of the DSP is now stable. Following the encounter, forces have intensified combing operations in the area and the special operation is still continuing, he said.

“Yesterday, we had recovered one AK47 and two more weapons have been recovered today. The identities of the deceased Maoists have not been ascertained yet. We are in touch with police officials of neighbouring states in this regard,” Bansal added.

It is pertinent to mention here that three Maoists, including a senior cadre, were killed in an encounter with security personnel of the state intelligence wing (SIW) at Taperenga-Ludengad forest under Madanpur Rampur police station area of Kalahandi on Tuesday.
