Sambalpur: Once again throwing up a challenge to Odisha Police, miscreants looted over Rs 10 lakh at gunpoint from a branch of Andhra Bank located at Jamankira under Kuchinda block of Sambalpur district.

According to reports, three masked men looted cash from the bank after taking five persons including two bank officials hostage.

The incident occurred at around 3:40 PM today. The miscreants reportedly looted the cash at gunpoint and fled with the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera’s hard disk.

Sources said the armed miscreants had come in a motorcycle. The involvement of an inter-State criminal gang is suspected as the miscreants were communicating in Hindi.

“One of the men had arrived by covering his face. When we opposed, another person immediately held one of our senior officials at gunpoint. Later, they also assaulted him,” said a bank staff.

Following the incident, police have sealed prominent entry and exit points in the town and further investigation in connection with the loot is on.
