Fake marriage: Junior doctor dupes woman in Berhampur

Berhampur: A woman has brought allegations against a junior doctor of the MKCG Medical College here that he cheated her on the pretext of marriage and has now absconded. The woman, who is pregnant now, filed a complaint at the Mahila police station.

As per the complainant’s report, the doctor Jyoti Ranjan Mohapatra befriended the woman through a matrimonial site after which the couple met in Bhubaneswar. The accused established physical relation with her during this trip and later the duo even lived together in an apartment in Berhampur as husband and wife after marrying at a Bhairabi temple.

“Whenever I would insist on getting a registered marriage, he would avoid saying he will be ready right after his PG exams during which he even moved to a hostel. Now that his PG exams are over, he has abandoned me when I’m nine months pregnant,” said the woman.

Berhampur SP Ashish Kumar Singh said police has begun a probe into the matter and action will be taken based on evidence.

Another such incident of a woman cheated on false marriage promise by an OSAP jawan had surfaced on July 4 in Puri.
