The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has extended the deadline for submitting applications for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025 and the Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination 2025 to February 18, 2025.

This extension from the previous deadline of February 11 aims to accommodate more applicants and address technical issues reported by candidates. UPSC has also introduced a correction window from February 19 to February 25, 2025, allowing candidates to rectify any errors in their submitted applications.

This seven-day window provides an opportunity for applicants to review and modify certain entries in their One-Time Registration (OTR) profile, ensuring accuracy in their application details.

“In view of the queries/difficulties raised by the candidates in filling up the online application form for the civil services examination, 2025, the commission has decided the following changes in the one-time registration (OTR) for filling up of the online application,” a statement from UPSC read.

Following entries in the OTR profile have been made editable:

1.    Have you ever changed your name?
2.    Gender
3.    Minority Status
4.    Class 10th Board examination roll no.

Non-Editable Fields in OTR Profile

While UPSC has made several fields in the OTR profile editable until the final submission of the application, crucial information are not-editable:
1.    Name (as per Class X certificate)
2.    Date of birth
3.    Father's name
4.    Mother's name
5.    Mobile number
6.    Email ID remain non-editable to maintain the integrity of the application process.

Recovery Process for Lost Contact Information

UPSC has implemented a recovery process for candidates who have lost access to their registered mobile number or email ID. If a candidate retains access to his/her registered email but has lost mobile number, he/she can request a change by receiving an OTP on their email.

Conversely, if the email is inaccessible but the mobile number is available, an OTP will be sent to the registered mobile for verification. In cases where both the registered mobile and email are inaccessible, candidates must submit a formal request to otrupsc@gov.in, accompanied by supporting documents including a matriculation certificate, Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, or driving license, a recent passport-size photograph, and a prescribed undertaking.

Special Provisions for PwBD Candidates and Name Changes

The Commission has introduced special provisions for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates. Those requiring the assistance of a personal scribe must mandatorily provide scribe details for the preliminary examination.

For the main examination, PwBD candidates can voluntarily indicate or update scribe details after the declaration of preliminary exam results. Additionally, candidates who have changed their names must submit a gazette notification if there's a mismatch with their matriculation or higher education certificates. If the gazette notification is unavailable at the time of application, candidates will have an opportunity to upload it after the preliminary results are declared.

Examination Schedule and Vacancy Details

The Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025 is scheduled for May 25, 2025. The UPSC aims to fill approximately 979 vacancies through this examination, including 38 positions reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities.

The examination process consists of three stages: preliminary, main, and interview, designed to select officers for prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others. Candidates are required to submit their applications online through the official website upsconline.gov.in.
