Startup Meta Loop has unveiled Meo, an AI-powered virtual girlfriend app designed to offer a customisable, emotionally responsive companion experience.

Available through the “My Meo” app on Android and iOS, users can tailor her voice, personality traits, and relationship dynamics—including levels of flirtation, loyalty, and even jealousy.

What sets Meo apart is her ability to simulate emotions such as jealousy—intended to create a more lifelike connection. In a promotional clip, Meo cheekily asserts, “You are my one and only, do not even think about trying other AIs,” showcasing her “emotional adaptability”.

While Meo has captured public interest, mental-health experts caution against mistaking it for genuine human connection. Dr Nicole Nasr notes that such customizable AI companions “may provide an illusion of emotional support rather than genuine connection.”

Though the basic version is free, advanced emotional features are locked behind a paywall—raising ethical questions around the commercialization of intimacy.

As AI companions like Meo become more polished and mainstream, discussions intensify on whether they offer meaningful companionship or risk eroding real-world social bonds.
