Woman, 4-year-old daughter lose hands and legs after falling off train in Odisha

A tragic accident at Singapur Road Station, Rayagada district, Odisha, left a woman and her four-year-old daughter severely injured after falling off the Korba Express train. The woman lost both hands and one leg while the child's right hand and one leg were severed. They were initially treated at Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital before being transferred to MKCG Medical College in Berhampur due to worsening conditions.

In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman and her four-year-old daughter lost their hands and legs after falling off a train at Singapur Road Station in Odisha’s Rayagada district. 

The woman lost both her hands and one leg while the other leg was also broken. Similarly, the little girl reportedly lost her right hand and one leg, reports said.

The incident occurred when the family was boarding the Korba Express train at Singapur Road Station to go to Kalahandi’s Junagarh. While the little girl’s father managed to board the speeding train, the mother and daughter duo fell off, leading to the mishap.

As the said train stops just for one minute at Singapur Road Station, the family was trying to board the train quickly, reports said. Railway Police rescued the two in critical condition and admitted them to Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

After preliminary treatment, they were shifted to Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment after their conditions worsened.

“The family had come to attend the last rites of a relative and were going back home when the incident occurred. The victims are my sister-in-law and her daughter,” a relative said.
