Islamabad: A Pakistani court on Saturday acquitted four men accused of involvement in the botched Times Square bomb attack carried out by Pakistani-American terrorist Faisal Shahzad in 2010.
The anti-terrorism court in the garrison city of Rawalpindi acquitted Muhammad Shoaib Mughal, Muhammad Shahid Hussain, Humbal Akhtar and Faisal Abbasi on the grounds that the prosecution failed to prove its case against them.
The men were arrested in Pakistan following the New York City incident. Shahzad has already pleaded guilty in a US court to trying to blow up a bomb in his SUV.
The bomb had failed to detonate. American officials have said Shahzad was trained for the attack by the Pakistani Taliban. Two other men arrested Pakistan in the aftermath of the incident were released earlier.
