Tension gripped Goudasahi area under Bada Bazar police station in Ganjam district on Saturday after a man was allegedly killed by his friend over unpaid money on Friday night. 

The deceased has been identified as Shankar Majhi.

According to locals, they heard screams coming from a locked house and immediately informed the police. Upon arrival, police broke open the lock and rescued Shankar in a critical condition. He was immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College & Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

As per sources, Shankar had been staying with his friend, identified as Gaur Behera. On the previous night, an argument reportedly broke out between the two over pending dues. Gaur allegedly assaulted Shankar, locked the house from outside while he was in a critical condition, and fled the scene.

Police have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
