Addu (Maldives): Maldives on Friday made it clear that its friendship with China will not affect its ties with India.

Replying to a question on China opening its embassy in Maldives this week, President Mohammad Nasheed told reporters here: "India has been a good friend, best neighbour and we will continue to work with India."

China had opened its full diplomatic mission in Male, the capital of Maldives, on November 8, coinciding with the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit.

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka form the eight-nation regional grouping.
