Kabul: A huge explosion rocked the Afghan capital on Wednesday, causing dozens of casualties and wounding over 60, according to local media.
The suspected car bomb took place around 8.30 a.m. close to the Zanbaq square in the 10th police district of the city, according to Khaama News which quoted Ministry of Interior spokesman Najib Danish.
"There are fears that scores of people have been killed," the agency said.
The blast took place in a high-security area which is home to embassies and diplomatic missions, including the Indian Embassy.
Sources told IANS that there were no casualties to any Indian national but window panes of the embassy building were shattered.
In New Delhi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Tweeted: "By God's grace, Indian Embassy staff are safe in the massive #Kabul blast."
The explosion ripped through the diplomatic zone causing widespread damage, Tolo News reported, adding that the explosion happened on 14th street, close to the German embassy.
Spokesman Danish said a suicide bomber had detonated a vehicle packed with explosives.
No group including the Taliban insurgents has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
Images circulating on social media appeared to show a large cloud of black smoke over the city, BBC said.
"Massive explosion just shattered all the windows and glass in our bureau," Jessica Donati, who covers Afghanistan for the Wall Street Journal, wrote on her Twitter account.
