India lost the first T20I against lower-ranked West Indies by just four runs in a thrilling match at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Thursday. The hosts are now leading the five-match series 1-0.

The World No.1 T20I team failed to chase 150 runs against the seventh ranked team. India got up to a bad start with both the openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill departing with single-digit scores.

Debutant Tilak Varma starred with the bat scoring a brisk 39 off 22 balls including three sixes and two boundaries. Suryakumar Yadav (21) and captain Hardik Pandya (19) got starts but failed to help the team win the match.

While Sanju Samson was run out for just 12 runs, all-rounder Axar Patel also failed to live up to expectations, scoring only 13 off 11 balls.

The capitulation of the Indian team against the lower-ranked West Indies, who have even failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023, has not gone down well with the fans. They trolled the Men in Blue over Twitter.

“Kapil Dev was right. Arrogance is killing Indian cricket,” wrote a fan.

“What a mess India made of the match,” tweeted another fan.

In response to Team India’s shocking loss, a third user commented, “After this match it is prove that West indies is the best team in T20 games and this current Indian team is best in playing only in IPL.”
