Boko Haram claims Nigeria church bombing
Eyewitnesses said the bomber who drove into the building of Church of Christ during an early morning service killed a man and his child and another woman going to the church. Some witnesses claimed the bomber was dressed in an army uniform.
"The bombing is as a result of our determination to avenge the assassination of Muslims over the past 10 years" spokesman for the group, Abu Qaqa said.
Boko Haram, whose name translates to Western education is a sin, wishes to overthrow the democratic government of the country and install an Islamic state and the rule of Sharia.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) spokesman told PTI more than 38 others were wounded in the attack and explained further that the woman killed must have been run over by the speeding suicide bomber.
"We have taken all the wounded persons to the hospital for treatment" he said.
Meanwhile, youths who were angered by the bombing became irate and started smashing windscreens of cars.
Later in the day, three bodies of persons said to be accomplices to the suicide bomber were seen lynched by the enraged youth.
According to witnesses, one of them jumped off the vehicle driven by the suicide bomber in a bid to escape the attack but was unlucky as he was wounded by slightly by the explosives. Jos is the capital of Plateau state which has witnessed series of ethnic fighting between Hausa-Fulani and Berom in recent times. The former are regarded as settlers by the later and this has been a reason for constant dispute.
