8 people killed in blast in Pakistan

Islamabad: At least eight persons were killed and 15 others injured when a bomb went off at a market in the restive Bajaur tribal region of northwest Pakistan today, officials said.

The blast occurred at Pusht Bazar in Salarzai area of Bajaur Agency. Several persons died after being taken to a nearby hospital. At least five shops were destroyed by the blast.

The nature of the explosion could not immediately be ascertained. No group claimed responsibility for the incident. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
