Peshawar: Militants targeted a police van with a bomb at Hangu city in northwest Pakistan on Thursday, killing four persons and injuring 33 others, police said.

The blast targeted the van while it was on a routine patrol. The explosion also hit several nearby vehicles and houses. Four policemen and several women and children were among the injured, police said.

The identities of the dead and the nature of the blast could not immediately be ascertained.

Ambulances were sent to the site of the blast to take the injured to a nearby state-run hospital.

Those in a serious condition were later shifted to Peshawar. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
