Every year on September 10, World Suicide Prevention Day is observed to raise awareness about suicide while providing commitment and action to prevent it worldwide.
While stress, mental health issues, trauma, and family or societal pressures may lead to this severe situation, here are a few things individuals with suicidal thoughts need to be aware of.
Life is Precious: Every life on Earth is unique and has its own value and purpose. It’s about finding many magical moments and experiences. So, make sure to collect it all before your final time; don’t end it beforehand.
You are Loved: Think about your family, relatives, friends, and loved ones. They care about you deeply and want to support you in your difficult times. You are not ending one life, you are destroying others’ lives too with one decision.
There are Alternatives: Suicide is not the solution. Try to talk to a friend or a professional to help you out of a difficult situation.
Your Feelings Will Change: Emotions and feelings are temporary. What you are feeling today may not be the same tomorrow. With time and support difficult emotions can pass.
Purpose: Often hard times leave you devastated and you may begin doubting your existence. However, now, is the perfect time to find the purpose in life. Pick new hobbies or take new courses that will fill your life with meaning and fulfilment.
To-do List: Think about what you always wanted to do and never got the chance to do yet. It’s high time to do just that. Go on an adventure trip or buy yourself gifts, your favourite food, clothes, etc.
Self-care: Commit time to journal, write down your every thought, exercise, take nature walks, and focus on the present while celebrating small victories.
Hope for the Future: Let go of negative emotions and thoughts that contribute to your stress. Imagine a better tomorrow and start working towards it.
