The Railways Minister revealed that the Indian Railways plans to deploy around 250 units of Vande Bharat sleeper trains by 2029.

Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has prioritised both aesthetic appeal and functionality in designing the sleeper berths, interiors, and exteriors of these trains, as per the report.

Completion work on the first set of Vande Bharat sleeper trains is progressing rapidly, with the first train expected on track within two months as the final technical details are being finalised.

The trains are designed to operate at speeds of up to 200 km/hr and will include 1 AC First Class, 4 AC Two-Tier, and 11 AC Three-Tier compartments, totalling 16 bogies with a combined capacity of 823 berths across different classes. The trains will also feature vacuum toilets and other amenities.

Following the success of the country’s first indigenous semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express trains which have transformed rail travel in India, the Indian Railways is now set to launch the Vande Bharat sleeper trains.
