Indian hockey team receives rousing welcome in Bhubaneswar after Paris Olympics bronze medal win

The Indian Hockey team, fresh off their bronze medal victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics, received a grand welcome upon arriving in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

A large crowd, including sports enthusiasts, gathered at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) to catch a glimpse of the hockey players and greet them.

The team was given a spectacular reception as they exited the airport, followed by a mega roadshow from BPIA to Kalinga Stadium.

The roadshow featured elaborate arrangements, with the players travelling in a special bus. Hundreds of motorcyclists joined, cheering the jubilant athletes.

Odisha’s rich culture and heritage were showcased during the roadshow, with large crowds lining the streets to greet the hockey stars.

Traditional music and drum beats filled the air, while artists performed Chhau, Ghumura, and other tribal dance forms to celebrate the team’s arrival.

Star Odia defender Amit Rohidas, who played a crucial role in securing the bronze medal, was among the team members.

The team was felicitated by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for their remarkable achievement in Paris at the Kalinga Stadium.

After India's 2-1 victory over Spain to secure third place, CM Majhi announced a special cash award of Rs 4 crore for Amit Rohidas, alongside Rs 15 lakh for each player & Rs 10 lakh for the support staff.
