The recent attack on Donald Trump has put the spotlight on the history of frightening assassination attempts on high-profile political leaders. Here is a list of US Presidents who survived such attempts.
Gerald Ford: The 38th US president faced two assassination attempts, both in 1975. Ford was attacked by one of Charles Manson's disciples when on his way to a meeting in California. He pushed through the crowd and aimed a pistol at the President.
However, the attacker was prevented in executing the plan. The Manson Family, led by criminal Charles Manson operated a cult in California during the late 1960s.
Seventeen days after the first assault, another woman named Sara Moore, confronted Ford in San Francisco. Moore missed her first shot and a second shot was also attempted, when a bystander swiftly grabbed her arm and Gerald Ford was saved again.
Ronald Reagan: The 40th US President was attacked while leaving after a speech in DC. Attacker John Hinckley Jr., fired his steel revolver at the President and his troop. Reagan was deeply injured due to which he lost 40% of the blood. He then recovered at the Washington University Hospital.
The other party members left injured were his press secretary James Brady, who was paralyzed, Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy wounded in the stomach, and a DC policeman, who suffered injuries in the neck and shoulder.
George W Bush: The 43rd US premier was attending a rally in Tbilisi in 2005 when a hand grenade was thrown toward him. Bush was standing behind a bulletproof barrier when the explosive landed 100 feet away. However, the grenade did not explode and no damage was caused to anybody.
