Nadia Bara is a traditional delicacy from Odisha, a state in eastern India. This savoury dish combines the unique flavors of channa dal (split chickpeas) and coconut, creating a delightful blend of textures and tastes.

These lentil fritters filled with the delicious goodness of coconut, are a wonderful treat for rainy evenings!

Channa dal (split gram, 1 cup ), fresh coconut pieces ( 1/3 cup ), ginger ( 1 inch long ), roasted cumin powder ( 1/3 tsp ), baking powder ( 1/3 tsp ), dry red chillis ( 2-3 nos), chopped cilantro, salt to taste.

Soak the channa dal for 5-6 hours. Wash it thoroughly and grind it into a thick, coarse paste along with coconut pieces, dry red chillies, and a little water.

Add grated ginger, cumin powder, chopped cilantro and salt to taste.

Shape the mixture into small flat circles and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a wok for deep frying. Place the cook them in the hot oil until both sides turn a slightly reddish colour.

Serve the fritters with rice and dalma or enjoy them as a snack or starter.
