The countdown for the festival of colours has already started. Here are nine home care tips to safeguard your home interior from Holi colours and enjoy the festival with peace of mind.
Remove valuable items: It is better to remove all valuable items including cushions, decorative items, and others, to a safer place before and while playing Holi to avoid getting them ruined.
Walls: Apply a coat of washable and stain-resistant paints on the walls to avoid mishaps. If anything goes wrong you can cover them with wallpapers or re-paint.
Furniture: Use old sheets or plastic covers to cover your furniture and protect it against stains. However, if they get stained, use a vacuum cleaner for dry colours; for wet colour stains, it’s better to just wash them.
Floor: Separate your carpets and rugs to a safe place before and while playing Holi. Use liquid detergent to clean the surface if stained.
Doors and knobs: You can protect your doors and knobs by applying petroleum jelly or turpentine oil to avoid getting them stained. If stained, you can clean them with liquid dishwasher soap or a solution of vinegar and water.
Bathroom: Similarly apply petroleum jelly on all fixtures to avoid getting them stained. Bath in the bathtub and keep the towels handy to keep the bathroom tile safe.
Glass window panels: These are susceptible to stains as they are transparent. Hence, if stained, clean them with glass cleaners or liquid detergent solution while avoiding scratching them.
Switchboard: Cover them with transparent plastic sheets to avoid them getting stained and getting electric shock from them. If stained, you can use acetone on a cotton ball to remove the stains, however, avoid using water.
Post-Holi cleaning: If you follow all the tips here there will be fewer stains to remove. However, if any mishaps occur, a post-Holi cleaning will get rid of all your troubles.
