Jigra, Kanguva among 7 Biggest Indian Cinema Flops of 2024

Indian cinema, the world's largest film industry, continued to produce and release several movies throughout 2024 with some of the biggest faces as its leads.

While films like Pushpa 2: The Rule and Bhool Bhlaiya 3 went on to become celebrated hits, others were not so fortunate.

Here's a list of seven of this year’s releases that failed to meet expectations, and were considered flops by industry experts, as per estimates.

Maidaan: Starring Ajay Devgn, it was released on April 11, 2024, and grossed Rs 72 crore despite high expectations, but was a box office disaster due to constant delays.

Kanguva: Directed by Siva and starring Suriya in dual roles, it grossed less than Rs100 crore worldwide and holds the record for the greatest loss on an Indian movie.

Vettaiyan: Starring Rajinikanth, released on October 10, 2024, grossed Rs 240 crore worldwide but struggled after a strong opening weekend, falling short of typical Rajinikanth successes.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan: Starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, the sci-fi action film grossed just over Rs 100 crore worldwide, despite a Rs 350 crore budget.

Indian 2: Released on July 12, 2024, starring Kamal Haasan, grossed around Rs 150 crore worldwide despite high expectations, but flopped due to negative word of mouth.

Jigra: Despite Alia Bhatt’s outstanding performance, the film grossed Rs 30.69 crore but failed due to a poor plot and execution.

Sarfira: Despite Akshay Kumar’s praised performance, weak marketing and competition from Stree 2 limited its earnings to Rs 26.13 crore.
