IMD yellow warning alert: Dense fog alert for 10 Odisha districts; night temperature to rise after 24 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for dense fog in several districts of Odisha, even as dry weather conditions are expected to continue across the state over the next three days. The weather agency has also forecast no significant change in minimum (night) temperatures during the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual rise of 2–3°C thereafter.

Temperature Trends Across Odisha

During the past 24 hours, minimum temperatures recorded an appreciable fall across several regions of the state. Night temperatures dropped by about 2–4°C at a few places in South Coastal Odisha and by 2–3°C at one or two places in North Coastal and South Interior Odisha. Elsewhere in the state, there was no significant change.

In terms of departure from normal, temperatures were markedly below normal by around 5°C at one or two places in Interior Odisha. They remained below normal by 2–3°C at many places in Coastal Odisha and at a few places in Interior Odisha, while remaining normal in other districts.

The IMD has indicated that minimum temperatures are unlikely to change significantly over the next 24 hours but are expected to increase by 2–3°C across Odisha in the following days.

Forecast and Warning Details

Day 1 (Valid up to 8:30 AM IST, February 18, 2026)

Dry weather is very likely to prevail across all districts of Odisha.

However, shallow to moderate fog is expected during the early morning hours at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput and Rayagada.

IMD Yellow Warning:

Dense fog is likely at isolated pockets in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Angul and Dhenkanal districts. Residents have been advised to remain updated on weather conditions, particularly during early morning travel.

Day 2 (Valid from 8:30 AM IST, February 18 to 8:30 AM IST, February 19, 2026)

Dry weather conditions are expected to continue across the state.

Shallow to moderate fog is likely during early morning hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput and Rayagada.

Day 3 (Valid from 8:30 AM IST, February 19 to 8:30 AM IST, February 20, 2026)

Dry weather is very likely to prevail across Odisha, with no major weather systems affecting the state.

Advisory

With dense fog likely in several districts, especially coastal and adjoining interior regions, commuters and motorists are advised to exercise caution during early morning hours. Reduced visibility may disrupt road traffic in affected areas.

While daytime conditions are expected to remain stable under dry weather, the gradual rise in night temperatures after the next 24 hours may bring slight relief from the prevailing cold conditions in parts of the state.
