India is set to witness two cyclonic storms. As per the India Meteorological Department, a cyclone named 'Tej' has formed in the Arabian Sea while a possible cyclone 'Hamoon' is brewing over the Bay of Bengal.
As per the IMD, the deep depression now lies centered about 430 km south off Paradip coast in Odisha, 590 km southwest of Digha in West Bengal, and 740 km south-southwest off Khepupara in Bangladesh.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclone named as 'Tej' is brewing over the Arabian Sea while a possible cyclone 'Hamoon' is forming over the Bay of Bengal.
It is likely to move northwestwards during the next 12 hours, then recurve and move north-northeastwards during the subsequent three days towards Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts.
As per IMD, it is very likely to move northwestwards till October 24 morning and then north-northwestwards. "It is likely to cross Yemen-Oman coasts between Al Ghaidah (Yemen) & Salalah (Oman) around the evening of October 24," said IMD in its latest bulletin.
The system over Arabian sea has intensified into cyclonic storm Tej and is expected to transform into a very severe cyclonic storm by Sunday evening.
Speaking to OTV, IMD scientist Umashankar Das said, “The low pressure area will move towards north-west and is likely to intensify into a depression over west-central Bay of Bengal on Sunday.”
As per the IMD, the system is likely to intensify further into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal around October 22.

The cyclonic circulation is likely to move north-westwards and under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over central parts of the Bay of Bengal around October 20 (Friday).

The IMD has further predicted light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorm activities in several parts of the state in the coming days. However, no warning has been issued in this regard.
